Sacramento Boudoir Photography FAQ: 10 Questions Women Ask Before Booking

FAQ Sacramento boudoir photography

If you’ve been looking for a Sacramento boudoir photographer, chances are you’ve spent some time Googling questions before reaching out. That’s completely normal. In fact, most of my clients from Sacramento, Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Roseville, Granite Bay, Auburn, and Chico have many of the same concerns before they ever step foot into the studio.

After photographing hundreds of boudoir sessions, these are the questions I hear most often.

1. What is boudoir photography?

Boudoir photography is a personalized portrait experience that focuses on connection, self-expression, and storytelling. While many people associate boudoir with lingerie, there really aren’t any rules. Some clients bring bodysuits and heels, while others show up with an oversized sweater, a favorite jacket, a wedding veil, or pieces that simply feel like them. The goal isn’t to become someone else. It’s to create images that reflect who you are right now.

2. Do I need to lose weight before booking a boudoir session?

This is probably the most searched and most asked question in the industry.

The short answer is no.

I’ve photographed women in every season of life, and almost all of them believed they needed to change something before they booked. The truth is that most of us keep moving the goalpost. We tell ourselves we’ll do the photoshoot after we lose ten pounds, after life calms down, or after we feel more confident. What I’ve learned is that confidence usually comes after we stop waiting, not before.

3. What should I wear to a boudoir photoshoot?

The best outfit is the one that feels like you. Some of the most popular choices include bodysuits, lingerie, oversized sweaters, robes, jeans, button-down shirts, bridal pieces, and cozy lounge wear. During your planning process, we’ll talk through options and create a wardrobe plan that matches your vision and comfort level.

4. What if I’m awkward in front of the camera?

Most people think they’re awkward in front of the camera. Most people also think everyone else knows how to pose except them.

Neither is true.

The majority of my clients have never done a professional photoshoot before. Every pose, movement, expression, and hand placement is guided throughout the session. You don’t need modeling experience. You simply need to show up.

5. How much does boudoir photography cost?

Pricing varies depending on the type of session, the number of images selected, and whether products such as albums are included. Rather than focusing on a one-size-fits-all package, I offer options that allow clients to choose the experience that best fits their goals.

6. Is boudoir only for brides?

Not at all. Bridal boudoir is incredibly popular throughout Sacramento and surrounding areas, especially during wedding season, but it’s only one type of session. Many clients book because they’re celebrating a birthday, entering a new chapter of life, marking a milestone, or simply doing something for themselves.

7. Do you photograph plus size boudoir?

Absolutely. Boudoir is not reserved for one body type. Every client deserves to feel seen, celebrated, and photographed thoughtfully. Posing, lighting, angles, and styling are all tailored to the individual in front of the camera rather than forcing everyone into the same approach.

8. Do you offer couples boudoir sessions?

Yes. Couples boudoir has become increasingly popular with clients from Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom, El Dorado Hills, and Granite Bay. These sessions focus less on perfect poses and more on genuine connection. Some couples come for an anniversary, some before their wedding, and others simply because they want an experience together that’s different from traditional portraits.

9. Should I get professional hair and makeup?

Professional hair and makeup can absolutely elevate the experience, but it isn’t required. Some clients love the extra pampering while others prefer a more natural look. The most important thing is choosing a style that feels authentic to you.

10. Is boudoir photography worth it?

Years from now, most people won’t remember exactly what they wore or which pose ended up being their favorite. What they remember is how they felt. They remember walking into the studio nervous and leaving feeling lighter, stronger, and more comfortable in their own skin. The photos become a reminder of a moment when they stopped waiting for the perfect time and simply allowed themselves to be seen.
