The Blog

Getting ready for your boudoir session might feel like a lot, but fear not! With some solid prep, we’ll turn it into an unforgettable and empowering experience.
So, you booked a boudoir session. Or you are thinking about it.
And now your brain is doing that thing where it spirals into questions.
What do I wear?
Do I need to lose weight?
How do I pose?
What if I feel awkward?
Deep breath. You are exactly where you should be.
As a Sacramento boudoir photographer, I have guided hundreds of people through their first session. Feeling nervous is part of the process. This guide will help you feel prepared without turning your session into a checklist of pressure.
You do not need to change your body.
You do not need to know how to pose.
You do not need to feel confident before you arrive.
Boudoir is not about performing or proving anything. It is about showing up as you are and being guided through the rest.
Most clients tell me they relax within the first ten to fifteen minutes. Nervous is normal. It passes quickly.
Wear things that feel like you, not things you think you are supposed to wear.
Popular options include lingerie sets, bodysuits, button downs, sweaters, dresses, robes, just a sheet, or less if that feels right for you.
If you book with me, you will receive a full prep guide and have access to my size inclusive lingerie and accessory closet, ranging from XXS to 5X, if you want to experiment and play.
Bring options. We will choose together. You are never locked into a plan.
Moisturize the night before your session.
Avoid trying new skincare products right before.
Skip spray tans or harsh exfoliation in the days leading up.
Drink water and get rest if you can.
Real skin texture is welcome here. Always.
Professional hair and makeup is optional, but highly recommended if it is included in your collection. It helps you relax and sets the tone for the day.
If you are doing your own, wear your hair in a way that feels most like you. Soft, natural makeup photographs beautifully.
Shaving or waxing is completely your choice. There are no expectations either way.
Eat something light that makes you feel comfortable. Most people prefer not to eat a heavy meal beforehand, but there are no rules here.
Listen to your body, not the internet.
Sessions typically last between thirty minutes and three hours, depending on the collection you choose.
When you arrive, we will talk through outfits and ideas, get comfortable, and ease into shooting. I guide everything. Where to stand. How to move. What to do with your hands. When to breathe.
Nothing is forced. Boundaries are always respected. Every session is a collaboration. You are never doing it wrong.
Within forty eight hours, you will receive a private, password protected proof gallery where you can view your images and choose your favorites. Once selections are made, final retouched images are delivered within two weeks. Products such as albums or keepsakes are delivered within three to four weeks, if included.
No pressure. No awkward sales conversations. No fine print.
You do not need a before body.
You do not need experience.
You do not need a reason beyond wanting to do this.
